Just a Northern girl living in a Southern world.
Hey Y'all, Yins, You All, etc! My name is Bailynne (Bay-Lynn) Miller and I'm a 22 year old Senior History Major at Coastal Carolina University. My passions in life include impersonating my twin sister, living off obnoxious amounts of Chipotle burrito bowls, competing in pageants, advocating for suicide and mental health awareness with AFSP, taking two naps a day, watching World War II documentaries on Netflix, collecting old postcards, and talking...a lot. I am orginally from Germany, but moved to Pennsylvania when I was younger with my family. Eventually I got fed up with the cold weather and decided to trek down South for college as quick as my little legs and '95 Honda Accord could take me. Now, I am currently residing in Conway, South Carolina where I am pursuing my secondary education and thorougly enjoying the mild temperatures year round. Yes, my parents are extremely jealous and yes the sweet tea down here is primo. Get to know me!
Now you may be wondering, why would I create this blog? And that, my new friends, is an excellent question. I am currently enrolled in a course at CCU called Introduction to Public History. This is not just your typical history course that involves copious amounts of reading and endless hours on Google trying to figure out if you can find some sort of summary so you can understand what said author meant. This class involves each of us taking our unique passions for history and helping to ignite that same spark into our community. Each student is encouraged to come up with a project related to something that they are passionate about. I happened to stumble upon my idea when interviewing the nicest man on field trip for this class. I realized that so many amazing connections can be made in this community related to history in my own backyard! So I decided to pack up my notepad, pen, and big mouth and trek to downtown Conway, South Carolina to visit some famous local and historical spots to get locals' takes on what they know and love about their own communities. What I discovered on this adventure was far more rewarding than just stories for a project. I made connections, memories, and friendships that will last me a lifetime.
